Linux Gateway to the Internet

So you are a small business, but you want limited access to the Internet for email, for browsing, for file transfer.

Maybe you have a couple of computers at home, and your kids want to surf the web while you work.

You don't want to spend the big bucks for a permanent, high speed, ISDN or T1 phone connection.

Your company's web site is hosted by your ISP, so you don't need a permanent connection for your customers to access your pages.

You don't have a lot of money for a gateway machine.

You are somewhat concerned about security from the bad guys on the internet.

Perhaps the solution to your problem is a relatively low power Linux computer, and a relatavely cheap unmetered access account with your local ISP (You may already have all you need.)

Here is a description of the gateway system I have at home, and another description of the gateway system I set up for a friend's business.

But first, what are the problems we are trying to solve?
